The task of protecting critical satellites for communication and remote sensing of the Earth is becoming important because of the annually growing amount of space debris. Creating traps for catching small space debris in the form of particles and installing the traps on spacecrafts is one of the promising methods of debris protection. The considered trap is comprised of a central support element carrying a mesh frame and telescopic arms between which flexible protection layers are placed. The layers form a multilayer package. This paper considers an important task of choosing the layout and the material of the flexible protection based on the proposed method of parametric modeling of a high-velocity impact of the protection by a small space debris particle. Based on the parametric modeling results, the combination of layers of the trap flexible shield material was determined. The trap configuration designed is capable of protecting spacecraft from small space debris in the form of aluminum and ice particles moving at the speed of 12 km/s and having a diameter of up to 10 mm.
