Expansion of scientific knowledge about the outer space is the most important step in the mankind’s development. Astronomy, the possibility of mining outside our planet, or tourism can be the arguments for the human presence on the Moon. Therefore, the creation of a lunar base is an integral part of all new space exploration programs. The harsh lunar environment presents humans with unique challenges, for example, long periods of darkness at almost all latitudes, high vacuum, large temperature fluctuations during the cycle, lack of protection of the atmosphere from meteorite impacts and ionizing radiation, little water and the presence of moon dust. For some of the problems, possible solutions have already been found, but the constant presence of a person on the moon will only be possible when all creative solutions are improved and combined into a one large-scale project. This article discusses the design and deployment of a habitable modular base on the lunar surface. Possible solutions for life support of the base are analyzed and proposed. The design of the deployable base modules is proposed and evaluated. The issues of radiation protection of the base personnel are considered. The concepts for power generation and storage systems have been proposed. The primary and backup energy sources are selected.
