A technique for comprehensive studying in high-temperature materials and coatings is given. The methodology of heat flux, emissivity, and catalytic activity determination is presented. The 6 samples of HfB2-SiC, 4 samples of ZrB2-SiC-based ceramics, and 4 C-SiC samples with ZrSi2-MoSi2−ZrB2 system coating were investigated in the wind tunnel VAT-104 of TsAGI in air and nitrogen high-velocity plasma flow. The facility VAT-104 allows us to simulate flight conditions with velocities of 4-8 km/s at altitudes of 60-100 km. The ceramics samples had withstood the tests, sample temperature and test time being respectively up to 3000 K and 800 seconds. The jump up to 1000 K of ceramics surface temperature was observed, formation of a highly catalytic thermo-barrier film on ceramics front side being the cause for heat flux and surface temperature jump. The film catalytic activity, emissivity, heat conductivity were evaluated. To support the experiments numerical simulation of flow in the supersonic nozzle and the working section of wind-tunnel VAT-104 is used.
