Global space activity is on the verge of a new cycle of increased efforts in military, civil and, increasingly, commercial fields. This situation, at the time of the current geopolitical crisis, needs special attention of the expert community. The paper highlights major challenges and main trends in areas of research and usage of space, and analyzes chief competitive advantages of the most advanced space nations, first of all, the United States, Russia, and China. It emphasizes the necessity of development and promotion of strategic foresight both at national and international levels with key importance of strengthening and expanding international cooperation.
