The article discusses the efficiency of autonomous traction rolling stock due to the use of hydrogen in the operating process of their power plants. The results of experimental investigations on the supply of hydrogen addition to the power plant of the ChME3 shunting diesel locomotive are given. A technical solution has been proposed – an on-board aluminium-hydrogen generator, which makes it possible to obtain high-purity hydrogen on board the locomotive and supply it to the power plant without using any balloon storage systems, which makes it possible to increase the safety level of the locomotive as a whole.
