This study explores how negotiations of meaning take part in vocabulary teaching in English Classroom. It shows the strategies during the negotiation of meaning involved by the teachers to facilitate EFL students to learn new words in class. It discusses the results of a case study at a State Merchant Marine Polytechnic of Makassar in Indonesia. The data were collected through classroom observation. It reveals that teachers implement four meaning strategies; repeat, elaborate, simplify, and comprehensive check. The instructor’s implementation of the meaning negotiation strategies is an essential element in teaching English vocabulary using meaningful interactions with EFL students with low levels of English.
