The present study reports the investigation on the effect of hydroxyl value on the physical and mechanical properties of polyurethane based on Hydroxyl-Terminated Polybutadiene (HTPB)/Isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI). The polyurethane was prepared by three kinds of HTPB with various hydroxyl value; 0.68 mmol g−1 (for PU-GA), 0.76 mmol g−1 (for PU-GB), and 0.91 mmol g−1 (for PU-GC). The results of the viscosity build-up observation show that PU GA and PU-GB has a slow increase in viscosity and plays a role in extending the pot-life of HTPB-based composites. pot life of HTPB-based composites. Fourier-Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy (FT-IR) was used to determine the composition. It was identified that PU-GA, PU-GB, and PU-GC have a similar profile of the IR spectrum. The presence of –NH, C=O, -CN and –C-O-C peaks was found at about 3340 cm−1, 1711 cm−1, 1510 cm−1 and 1225 cm−1 respectively. PU-GA achieve the best mechanical properties with tensile strength, elongation, and Modulus Young at about 0.48 MPa, 109.66 %, and 1.02 MPa respectively. One-way Anova test was carried out and found that the density was significantly different (p<0.05). The lowest density was achieved by PU-GA of 0.915 kg cm−3.
