The five-volume Space Biology and Medicine is a joint work of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Russian Academy of Sciences. Volume II, Life Support and Habitability, has two parts: Part 1—The Spacecraft Environment, and Part 2—Life Support Systems. This volume addresses major issues and requirements for safe habitability and work beyond the Earth’s atmosphere. It is intended for the use of students at various levels, who are majoring in biomedical and technical subjects and intending to specialize in space sciences; engineers developing life support systems; and physicians and scientists formulating medical specifications for habitability conditions onboard spacecraft, and monitoring compliance with them.
