Accurate measurement of thermal and optical properties of semitransparent media is important in the control of temperature distribution in the production and fabrication process. In this study, a shuffled frog-leaping algorithm was introduced to the inverse radiation-conduction problems involved in the process of thermal and optical properties measurement for semitransparent media. An improved shuffled frog-leaping algorithm was proposed to solve inverse problems, which was proven to be more efficient than the original shuffled frog-leaping algorithm and particle swarm optimization. The influences of pulse width and medium thickness on the sensitivity of temperature of the right boundary to the absorption coefficient. The thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity were considered to be temperature-dependent. All research outcomes indicate that the proposed improved shuffled frog-leaping algorithm can be used to simultaneously retrieve the absorption coefficient, temperature-dependent thermal conductivity, and specific heat capacity of semitransparent media, even with measurement noise.
