The rating of anticipation reaction before flight was compared with flight stress. An evaluation was also made of whether the anticipation reaction depends on daytime oscillation and whether it differs from the diurnal pattern of flight stress. Eighteen pilots had to perform a standardized instrument flight in a flight simulator in order to determine pulse rate, ventilation rate, respiratory minute volume, oxygen uptake, and carbon dioxide output before and during a given flight task. The result showed that anticipation reaction coincides with flight stress. (Author)
