Autonomous vehicles (AVs) are one of the most trending technologies these days. Mostly, these vehicles are automated based on machine learning (ML) models and artificial intelligence (AI) approaches. Moreover, many automotive giants have sprung into the market to create a version of autonomous vehicles that any general user can use. Through this chapter, you will come across the history and the experiments which laid down the grounds for the existence of self‐driving cars (or autonomous vehicles). You will dive deep into the working principles and the advantages and disadvantages of the actual implementation of autonomous vehicles. Security, safety, design, performance, and accuracy are significant challenges associated with any self‐driving car. Finally, we will have a brief discussion about the companies that are planning and building autonomous vehicles. The growth and the future scope of autonomous vehicles in different regions of the world are also briefly described along with some essential aspects of the market.
