This chapter explores the globalization of equity markets. Singapore Airlines is one of the most recognized corporate brands in the airline industry. Despite the success story of Singapore Airlines, the company's stock, listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, only commands $20–$30 million a day of turnover. That is roughly 50–60 percent of American Airlines, a company that has been through several rounds of bankruptcy protection in the past two decades and has a market capitalization of less than 10 percent of Singapore Airlines capitalization. Globalization, in the economic sense, is the integration of national economies through increased trade, foreign investment, capital flows, and liberalization of policy. On a global perspective, the integration of world economics has created stronger relationships between markets and corporations. The prosperity of any particular country is a function of the health of the world economy as a whole.
