This chapter describes the concepts of systems engineering (SE) discipline and quality assessment trends and challenges applied to nanosatellite development. The decision of a SE process adoption in a satellite project is usually done through the tailoring of traditional space SE processes. SE management acts from the concept development through retirement in order to maintain the system integrity according to stakeholders’ needs. The SE management plan guides the project's technical development, assigns responsibilities, establishes the management strategy, and identifies needed resources. In the space domain, some traditional and generally accepted SE process standards include Department of Defense organizations, European Cooperation for Space Standardization, and NASA. The chapter shows these SE standards with their main characteristics. Project management in collaboration with SE management defines the risk management approach and these definitions are documented in a risk management plan.
