This chapter describes the analytical approach used to explore the operational impact of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and their ability to supplement manned vehicles in complex war‐fighting environments. It provides insights gained from the study but focuses on how the approach used can be improved for future studies. Trade‐offs necessarily occurs with the scope of the study, the resources available and the desired fidelity of the results and the internal and external validity measures adopted in the design. The human‐in‐the‐loop (HIL) games are time consuming but provide a high level of engagement with subject matter experts (SMEs) and enable them through cycles of planning and executing these plans in an HIL to provide insights into how UGVs might be employed. One of the techniques that land capability analysis branch (LCA) has been making greater use of within the more recent analytical campaigns is analytical seminar wargaming.
