This chapter introduces a notation devised to describe relationships between the various features of diagrams of admissible controls. There are two simple operations that we can perform on two objects, called intersection and union. Some attainable moments are generated by an infinite number of admissible controls. The three‐dimensional set of attainable moments is bounded by two‐dimensional facets. The chapter illustrates the significance of volume as a comparative measure of the performance of different methods of allocating the control effectors. The data used to create the figure are representative of a real tactical fighter aircraft, and the pseudo‐inverse, or something like it, was for many years the default method of allocating redundant control effectors. In something of an extension to the concepts of dynamic inversion and model‐following control is the idea of determining the control effector displacements required to perform a particular maneuver.
