This chapter presents examples that explore electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) issues related to specific topics in transportation. Each example is addressed separately and will have a situation where the example may be of use to the EMC engineer. The examples are shown with no intermediate steps missing so that the EMC engineer may use the analysis as a guide when necessary. These last two examples with Hertzian antennas represent the antennas for some of the wireless devices that may be found along the right of way, such as car monitoring and personnel with handheld spread‐spectrum devices. The chapter contains two tables that are provided as a handy quick reference to some of the parameters used in the calculations for relative conductivity, permittivity and permeability.
