This chapter focuses on the childhood memories of Joseph. He was born on June 27, 1944, at Patterson Hospital in Duncan, Oklahoma. It discusses his dysfunctional youth with his parents, their separation, and his interaction with elder sister, Jimmie Sue. After schooling, Joseph attended vocational education classes and did menial jobs. He took Driver's Ed as a junior. He got his license and fell in love for the first time—with a girl, Linda Vanort, he met in class. The chapter discusses his first‐ever airplane flight from Oklahoma City to San Diego, via the now‐defunct Trans World Airlines. His sea duty was aboard the USS Boyd, a Fletcher‐class destroyer that had been commissioned in 1942. With 11 battle stars from World War II and another 5 from the Korean conflict, the Boyd was one of the oldest destroyers still left in the fleet. The chapter also includes Joseph's fourteen weeks of new agents’ training at Quantico.
