This chapter examines the design and simulation of leaf springs that primarily withstand bending. The leaf spring is the most common type of composite spring. A leaf spring mounted in a lengthways direction has a wheel leading function, including absorption of brake forces and lateral forces. A transverse leaf spring has a wheel‐guiding function that regulates the spring rate of the wheel and roll suspension of a vehicle. A transversal leaf spring is subjected to two different loads in the vehicle. On the one hand, it takes over the normal lifting suspension of the axle, and on the other hand, depending on the design, it takes over some or all of the required roll stabilization of the axle. The lifting suspension can be described as an equilateral load, since both wheels move in the same direction. For common types of leaf spring, optimization analysis is performed and the principle mechanical features are explained.
