The potential of regulating power from electric vehicles (EVs) in Denmark is analysed in order to quantify the available regulating power capacity from EVs and the economic return to the EV users. The driving pattern in Denmark has been analysed in order to obtain the energy needs of EVs for driving purposes and the EV availability for providing regulating power. The day‐ahead spot‐price‐based EV charging schedule is used as the base for providing regulating power from EVs to the system operator. The regulating power capacity needs and prices in the Danish electricity power system were studied and used to carry out the economic return analysis. The case study results show that the available regulating power capacity is quite big with high EV penetration. However, the economic return to EV users is not very high in the existing regulating power market set‐up.
