In this chapter, a mathematical framework based on stochastic geometry is proposed to analyze the performance of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems relying on the cellular network for their wireless communication. Reliable wireless communication is a key enabler for UAV‐enabled applications, allowing both mission control, real‐time flight control, or even real‐time access to the UAV data. The feasibility of integrating UAVs into existing and future 5G cellular networks is explained. For this, a generic 3D framework based on stochastic geometry was developed that allowed us to build analytic expressions for various user and network key performance metrics or indicators. The key performance metrics that correspond to the user and network perspectives are evaluated. By using the theoretical tools presented, qualitative and quantitative understandings of important design parameters of the cellular‐connected UAVs are provided. The default values of system parameters for numerical evaluations and simulations are listed.
