This paper addresses cooperative safety applications for urban intersection areas that are based on C2X communications. The road-side sub-system of the applications tries to detect dangerous situations as early as possible in order to send warning messages to the road users concerned. In-vehicle sub-systems on the other side present the incoming messages to the driver adequately. Challenges and benefits, typical use cases, system architecture as well as the implementation aspects on road side and vehicle side are discussed on the example of the SAFESPOT Test Site Germany.
