Mechanical property enhancement through Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) has yielded promising results for specific alloy types. This process has also been successfully applied to diffusion braze repair of turbine vanes. Because of the extensive time and testing investments to verify benefits, the Cherry Point Depot has not independently pursued new HIP applications. The repair types and associated processes discussed above represent a small portion of the potential gas turbine engine airfoil restoration techniques. Equipment employing low pressure plasma, plasma transfer arc, laser, hydrostatic, and similar proven and emerging technologies certainly offer increased opportunities for such repairs.
