This presentation describes a new family of technical substrates designed to meet the dynamic requirements for an automotive air bag. Advanced chemistry in combination with an innovative process technology allows the use of a variety of fiber types and fabric constructions that can be tailored to a specific customers need or requirement. Manufactured under the trade name of Reevair, this new generation of air bag fabrics provides design flexibility, high performance at very competitive pricing, and meets current and future requirements for recyclability. The versatility of a chemically grafted substrate allows the design engineer to use the fabric singularly or in combination with other materials to produce driver of passenger side air bags, side impact bags, knee bolsters, and the airbag for the future. Chemical grafting of an fabric substrate is an innovation that differentiates the automotive air bag in performance and design. It is this type of product defferentiation that is required to keep pace with the ever evolving air bag restraint system.
