In this paper, a new method is presented for predicting the Transmission Loss (TL) of exhaust mufflers for reciprocating compressors and internal combustion (IC) engines. The method is based on a comprehensive analysis of aero-dynamic and acoustic characteristics, and it takes account of the influence of fluctuating flow on the propagation of acoustic wave in the compressor exhaust pipe and muffler. The predicted results are in good agreement with experiment measurements.
