Air temperatures and the road surface temperatures may differ greatly from each other causing problems when driving at temperatures close to 0 degree C. An attempt was made to determine the physical phenomena involved in this and their influence on road surface temperatures, and finally a procedure was created by which road surface temperatures could be presented as a function of the most essential factors. A FEM model was created and simulations were made, resulting in a model by which road surface temperatures can be predicted with input data comprising only a few decisive parameters.
