This paper deals with a stress analysis of thin wall thickness blind flanged bolted joints where silicone sealant is applied under bolted force. The stress distributions at the interfaces and the variation in axial bolt force are analyzed using finite-element method, when an internal pressure is applied to the joints. The effects of the stiffness and the wall thickness on the contact stress distributions at the interfaces are examined. Leakage tests were conducted and the variation in bolt axial force was also measured when an internal pressure was applied. The experimental results are fairly consistent with the analytical results. The new gasket factors for applying the silicone sealant to blind flanged joints are proposed. The sealing performance and the new gasket factors of the silicone sealant are discussed.
