Most pipe components receive cyclic stress. Then, the LBB (Leak Before Break) behaviours by cyclic load have recently been attracting much attention from a structural integrity point of view. However, studies of fatigue crack growth behaviours and crack opening displacement on a complex through wall crack in pipe are relatively rare. To that purpose, a series of fatigue tests have been carried out at room temperature on carbon steel pipes which have an outer or inner surface crack. Before crack penetration, by using a plate model considered, leak life, fatigue crack growth behaviours such as aspect ratios and da/dN vs Delta K relation were evaluated successfully. After crack penetration, new formulas to evaluate K were proposed. For complex crack after through wall, fatigue life, crack growth behaviours and crack opening displacement were evaluated successfully by using the new formulas proposed in this paper.
