Fatigue crack growth test was performed using a pipe specimen with surface crack in air at 288 degree C, and crack growth rate and crack shape change behavior were studied. The specimen was a Japanese carbon steel pipe, STS410, whose nominal diameter was 318.5 mm (12B) with a circumferential surface crack in the base metal and welded region. The crack growth rate obtained in the test was generally in agreement with the reference curve of ASME Code Sec. XI, although there was some dispersion in values in the welded region. The change of aspect ratio was in good agreement with the predicted curve was calculated by the influence function method.
