The American Petroleum Institute (API) RP14E equation (Vc = C/rho1/2) for determining critical erosional velocity (Vc) does not allow calculation of the constant (C), which is crucial to the application of the equation in any service environment. An alternative equation (Vc = C/rho3/7), developed more than 10 years ago, provides a means to calculate the C factor for any alloy exposed to any service environment.
