A system is being developed that will collect data using voice recognition as a farmer is operating a tractor or combine. The farmer can see the field from the equipment seat, and can collect data with easily remembered voice commands regarding tile lines, weed or insect problems, crop lodging, point rows, and machinery operations. This information can be georeferenced using the same GPS locations used for the yield monitor. The operator is able to collect data while performing other operations, eliminating extra trips through the field for data collection. More field data can be collected allowing for better decisions regarding inputs to be made. Current marking devices and voice data collection system goals are discussed, as are proposed system characteristics.
