South Coast Air Basin (SoCAB) in CA has experienced photochemical pollution due to the combination of stagnant meteorological conditions, confining geography, and high concentrations of people and industrial activity. Nonmethane hydrocarbon (NMHC) concentrations were measured for a half month in the summer of 1997 in SoCAB. Both computational and experimental methods were raised. Measurements of roadway NMHC concentrations using a clean air vehicle showed that the concentration of hydrocarbon emitted from the vehicle is less than the ambient concentration inhaled into the vehicle over wide range of areas.
