A ship locally disrupts the earth's magnetic field in which it is dived. In order to make the ships as much quiet as possible towards the systems of detection and magnetic localization, they are equipped with degaussing systems. In order to optimize the 'cost/performance' ratio of these systems, DCN (France) has developed, in Object-Oriented Language (OOL), a software called 'DATASSIM'. It gives the expert in magnetism a complete and homogeneous device of creation and evaluation of the degaussing systems. Furthermore the use of complementary magnetic models (empirical, finite element method, measurement), adapted to the various phases of studies, gives the software an increased adaptability to the many and often late changes of the ship's specifications. The software flexibility, induced consequence of this adaptability, allows to improve the solutions' accuracy and reduces the studies delays.
