Induced AC voltage is clearly identified as a potential hazard, from both safety and corrosion standpoints, for all buried pipelines sharing common rights-of-way with overhead electric transmission systems. Fortunately, it is possible to simulate the conditions that is expected to exist on these pipe lines, and calculate anticipated levels of induced AC voltage and current. Armed with this information, it is possible to design mitigation systems that will increase the overall pipe line integrity, and make the pipe line and appurtenance safe for operating personnel.
