A sliding control DYC(Direct Yaw Moment Control) in which the on-board-tire-model is used simultaneously for estimating the side-slip angle as well as to predict the direct yaw moment needed for the control is proposed. While effects of the proposed DYC have been analyzed with the computer simulation, we have substantiated the estimation of side-slip angle by an experimental study. Though a fiction coefficient between tire and road surface is needed to be known in the on-board-tire-model from the strict point of view, it is proved that the vehicle performance even on icy road is significantly improved by the proposed DYC with the friction coefficient in the on-board-tire-model fixed as on dxy road, though the side-slip angle itself can not necessarily be estimated so precisely.
