A measurement system is discussed, suitable for measuring the lateral deviation of electrical guided vehicles. lt utilises permanent magnets buried in the road. lt is shown that the lateral deviation of a vehicle can be determined from the longitudinal and lateral magnetic fields. This method is insensitive for changes in the fieldstrength of the magnets and changes in vertical distance between magnet and field-sensor. lt is shown that part of the errors due to slant of the magnet can be eliminated by measuring with two 2-axes sensors.
