The technological progress allowed for the development of instruments for the kinematic and kinetic analysis of the human movement. This fact also offers new opportunities to face the biomechanical study of complex task in order to find out ergonomical criteria for design. In particular the application of not invasive measurement technology to motor performances allows for the identification of the motor strategies, for the analysis of the interactions between subject and environment during the movement and for understanding how the environmental parameters can modify the performance. Another important and innovative field is virtual reality. By merging the techniques and the results of the biomechanical analysis with the 'virtuality' concept and simulation algorithms, new methods for the design can be developed by simulating the human behaviour and its interactions with the virtual objects. These techniques can be applied to car ergonomics to develop a new instrument for the virtual prototyping of vehicles.
