The authors have carried out the experimental study to determine the sound power of marine diesel engine using sound intensity technique. In the previous paper presented at 20th CIMAC congress, problems to use this intensity method were discussed. After that, to make these problems clear, the authors have carried out further experiments, such as the precise intensity measurement using many measurement points, the measurements under the different sound field to the same engine, and the measurement to compare the discrete point method with the scanning method. The new sound power determination method for the large scale marine diesel engine has been thought from the knowledge by these experiments. This new method named 'Hybrid Method' is as convenient to use as the sound pressure method, and also has the same accuracy as the sound intensity method. In this paper, discussions about the various measurements are reported and the hybrid method is presented.
