Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, LTD. has developed MFT8 which is a aero-derivative gas turbine for marine use. Diesel engine has a wide market range for marine engine field because of the high thermal efficiency even during part-load operation. However gas turbine is superior to Diesel engine when it comes to reduction of environmental pollution effects. Therefore more efficient gas turbine will be ideally suited for marine engine. In this paper, performance of different kinds of cycles namely Simple Cycle (A), Inter-cooled Cycle (B), Inter-cooled recuperated Cycle (C), Reheat Cycle (D), Inter-cooled Reheat Cycle (E) and combined Cycle (F) is investigated. Parametric studies are carried out to optimize the thermal efficiency in each cycle taking into account the feasibility of components. The results show that the Cycle (F) has the highest efficiency and Cycle (C) may be more practical from the point of view of both the thermal efficiency and its applicability to a marine gas turbine.
