GRP springs have been available for more than 40 years, but the current designs are limited by the manufacturing techniques used to mould them. Thze authors have developed a flexible manufacturing route with few limitations on shape. This has allowed us to design and evaluate leaf springs for both the London taxi and semi-trailers. It has been possible to mould integral eye-ends for attaching the taxi springs to the chassis, and retention hooks to prevent the trailer springs from dropping when unloaded. For both vehicles, the ride has been improved and the transmission of noise generated at the wheel-road interface attenuated. The application to new vehicle designs is considered.
