The disturbed flow field around a floating body is divided into two parts: the local inner region and the infinite outer region, separated by a mathematical boundary. In the outer region, a panel method with oscillating source distribution is adopted. In the inner region, for the 3D problem, the panel method with simple source and douplet distribution is employed; and for the 2D problem, the finite element method is used. Appropriate matching matrices are developed by omitting the unknown source density on the mathematical boundary. Based on the above matching technique, computation of fluid forces (added mass and damping coefficient) for a horizontal circular cylinder and a sphere on the free surface has been carried out. The results show a good agreement with results obtained by others.
