A procedure is proposed to identify upper and lower bounds of the inspection interval for a metallic structure, based on the durability probabilstic model of the USAF (U.S.Air Force). The proposed methodology uses confidence bounds of the probability of crack exceedance to help in identifying the inspection interval. Consequently, the inspection will take place when the structure is damaged to a certain but limited extent, so that the repairing of the structure is economically advantageous. Tables obtained through Monte Carlo simulations are reported for the actual determination of the time interval in which the inspection should take place. Some properties of the estimated parameters are reported, which lead to a general applicability of the numerical tables presented. The proposed procedure is demonstrated through an example calculation.
