The PARXITELE system uses small electric cars in self service as an addition to the conventional city transport networks. It provides a necessary diversification to the public transport offer, offering both reduced space and energy consumption - which is a characteristic of conventional public transport -, and the freedom symbolised by car driving. PRAXITELE can already be operated with mass production cars. Its evolution will follow the progresses made in such subjects as city car technologies, automation and robotics. The fleet of PRAXICARS, i.e. small self service vehicles, is dispatched in the city. These vehicles are to be found in judiciously spread out PRAXIPARKS, i.e. dedicated park place areas, and may be used anytime, after purchasing a PRAXICARD, i.e. a smart card (credit-card like). The user moves the card near a dedicated contactless reader, put inside the vehicle, in order to open the doors. Then, the user inserts the card into a slot in the dashboard. After having pressed his/her PIN code, the user is allowed to start the car. When the trip is finished, the user parks the car on another PRAXIPARK (similar to the area where the car was taken at start) and gets his/her card back.
