Energy consumption of mobility is a worldwide problem. Its share in entire energy consumption is still increasing. Electric- and especially lightweight electric vehicles have a much lower energy consumption compared with conventional internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs). This is an additional advantage in view of the reduction of the air pollution in inner cities. Measuring the energy consumption of electric vehicles (EVs) is a new field with a lot of problems. The energy consumption of an EV is the energy needed to cover a standard as the ECE- or other drivecycles. In addition EVs consume a stand-by energy depending on the battery type and the charging system. This energy must be added. In Switzerland energy measurings of EVs and lightweight EVs are taken for some ten years. The results show the importance of an internationally standardized measuring method. Parameters as charging system, battery type, type of charger, road conditions, temperature etc. can result in measuring errors up to 100 %. A methode for the measuring in an automatic test bench and first results are presented. A definition of the charging mode is recommended.
