The first linear motor dated back to 1851 so that it is as old as the rotational ones. But classical linear motors are not easily practicable because they are open systems. Their advantages are well-known from the high-speed MAGLEV trains. Until today a complicated air-gap guiding mechanism made any use in road traffic impossible. This paper shows a modified linear motor which is predestinated for powering road vehicles because it doesn't increase the masses in the wheel suspension. Such linear driven cars save raw materials as they don't need starters, clutches, gear transmissions, differentials, crankshafts, lubricating oil and grease.
