The Cayman Islands are a British Crown Colony comprised of three islands. Grand Cayman is the largest area with 69.4 square miles and a population of approximately 29000. Grand Cayman has little or no natural potable water and todays's public water source is from two RO plants and one MED plant which together produce over 1.5 mgd of desalted water. Most of the hotels on the isl and have their own RO plants. In June of 1994 a two-effect dimpled plate type multiple effect desalination (MED) will be started at Central DeSal Ltd. on Grand Cayman Island of the British West Indies. The existing nine-effect MED plant will be modified to a seven-effect to accommodate a new A and B effect on the front end. Operating results will be presented at the conference since results are not available at the time of writing this paper.
