In diesel engines, the sprays are injected into a narrow space of combustion chamber and they do impinge on a piston crown and even on a cylinder liner. The phenomena occur even in a large low-speed diesel engine. And it is estimated that the change of shape of spray by impingement influences on the combustion processes, especially in a high-speed diesel engine with direct injection, such as a M-combustion engine where the impingement of spray on the wall is positively utilized. This paper presents and discusses the shape of a single diesel spray impinging on the wall which is set within the high pressure chamber contained by the quiescent charge at a high pressure with a room temperature. The experimental variables are the pressure of charge, the position and the angle of wall. The existence of wall has the large effect on the equivalent spray volume after impingement, although that has little influence on the shape of spray just before injection.
