The all solid state lithium polymer battery is considered as one of the most promising solutions to fulfill the Electric Vehicle requirements. The high energy density, the use of thin film automated fabrication processes, the safety of an all solid state configuration and the 60-80 deg C working temperature, are the main advantages that can be attributed to this technology. Bollore Technologies, EDF and CEA started a program for the development of a lithium polymer battery technology. The first two year objective is to manufacture with preindustrial processes a reproducible 100 Wh prototype with the following performances: 100 Wh/kg, 70 W/kg (30 mn), 300 full cycles. Cost competitive materials and processes have been selected in order to assess the economic feasability of the technology. Scientific, functional and technological aspects are investigated at the same time.
