Fichtel u. Sachs, a company involved in vehicle technology within the Mannesmann group, manufactures electrical drives suitable for use in the drive trains of electric and hybrid vehicles. The electrical machines, which belong to the family of permanent magnet synchronous machines, are characterised by type in diameter and in their modular system by their internal mechanical design. There are two ranges of associated inverters, the inverter selected depending on the value of the intermediate circuit voltage. The individual inverters in each range are available with a range of current levels. The special mechanical design of the inverter permits a liquid cooling system which effectively prevents the coolant entering the inside of the inverter. DC/DC converters are required in vehicles for power transmission between the vehicle electrical system, the intermediate circuit, and the domestic supply.
