Two light-weight novel materials for car industry applications are presented in the present paper. The first one is a carbon-carbon composite material with an amorphous matrix and a controlled porosity in it. The mechanical properties of this C- composite are very good, and as the density is low, 1.25-1.35 g/cm3, its specific strength is very high. On the contrary to the conventional materials its strength values are increasing as a function of temperature upto 2000 deg C. The specific bending strength value at 1500 deg C is about 8 x 105 Nmm/g. The second novel material presented in this paper is an aluminium alloy with a sharp fatigue limit; i.e. material with an infinite fatigue life at stress amplitudes below a critical one. This material was developed by microalloying an Al-alloy with such elements that they are forming atom-pairs with an unhomogeneous stress field around them and by using a special processing technique.
