The anti-skid brake system (ABS) is the device to control the brake of automobile to prevent the skid and spin in the accident due to the locking of wheels. It can provide the directional stability and shorten the braking distance. In this study, a fuzzy ABS controller is developed using the Intel 80196 microcontroller and FC110 fuzzy chip, and the controller is verified in a hardware in the loop simulation. Fuzzy control concept is employed to deal with the brake modulation of ABS. According to the braking system dynamics, the fuzzy rules are determined. The Intel 80196 microcontroller is used to implement fuzzy ABS controller and together with a fuzzy microcontroller to enhance the fuzzy inference speed. An ABS simulator using PC is used to check the performance of fuzzy ABS controller in various road conditions.
